Many patients ask if they are too old to perform breast reduction. There are very few limitations as to age and Dr. Lyle believes that many women achieve improvement in neck Pain and back pain and breast appearance even in later age groups. This 64-year-old woman had chronic neck and back pain and took anti-inflammatories but developed some vascular problems requiring the use of blood thinners which prevented her from taking NSAIDs. This made her neck and back pain worse. She was a very petite woman, only 5 foot tall and 110 pounds but she wore a size 34 DDD brassiere. Because of her small body habitus the amount of removal of breast tissue was not excessive and during breast reduction she had 340 g removed from each side. This is likely equivalent to having twice as much removed from a larger framed woman. She had significant improvement in her neck and back pain with the alleviation of the heavy breasts. Although she did have health problems that could potentially complicate her surgery, she did very well with the procedure and resumed her blood thinners after surgery without any bleeding complications. This procedure was done in a hospital setting because of her underlying medical condition but most procedures can be performed in the privacy of Dr. Lyle's surgery suite.
