About Eyelid Surgery
The eyes are an attractive feature of the face that deserve to be visible; however, an abundance of skin around the eyes can produce a tired and unflattering look. Raleigh, NC plastic surgeon Dr. Glenn Lyle uses blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery) to reduce excess skin and rejuvenate the upper or lower eyelid, creating a more "alert" look. Countless men and women receive eyelid surgery at Raleigh Plastic Surgery Center to eliminate saggy eyelids, which helps with both look and function. Blepharoplasty, whether lower or upper, creates a more awakened but softer appearance and can produce striking improvements.
Upper or lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that is performed on both men and women. At your first visit, treatment alternatives will be explained based on your areas of concern that need to be addressed. Generally, ideal candidates have excess, drooping skin and folds that exist on the top eyelid or bloated skin below the bottom eyelid. These conditions can cause functional and vision difficulty that can hinder normal, everyday life. For a rejuvenated look, eyelid surgery may be the right surgery for you. If you have hanging skin that folds over on the upper eyelid or bulging bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can treat this to give you a more youthful appearance.
"I cannot begin to express my gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Lyle. I first met Dr. Lyle a month ago during a consultation to have my recalled Allergan Biocell textured implants (installed by a different surgeon) replaced for smooth wall implants. The experience from beginning to end was fantastic. I was greeted warmly, and I love that they offer you a warm robe in the exam room. This is a nice change from the usual paper gowns. Dr. Lyle himself is lovely. He's friendly, knowledgeable, humble and helpful. Fast forward a month later and I woke up to a swollen and painful left breast - this is a big concern with textured implants, so I called his office at 8 am and was told by reception to start making my way in ASAP. I saw Dr. Lyle at 9 am. He examined me and decided I needed an ultrasound and biopsy. He asked his nurse to call around and find me an appointment. By 10 am I was in the capable hands of the Breast Center in Raleigh. My biopsy was sent right to the lab.The next day, Dr. Lyle called me with my results, thankfully everything was negative. This experience was very emotional and stressful for me and Dr. Lyle and his team were incredible. I am so grateful for everything he has done for me - what a tremendous advocate! I am really looking forward to being in Dr. Lyle's capable hands through my breast revision surgery in the coming weeks. Thank you so much for everything, Dr. Lyle. It is impossible to articulate my gratitude."- A.B. / Google / Jan 25, 2020

I can see clearly now and the world is a much..."- B. / RealSelf / Feb 26, 2019

During blepharoplasty, depending on the type and complex nature of the surgery, general anesthesia or IV sedation will be provided. This treatment may be done on the upper eyelid alone, under or on the bottom eyelid, or a combination of both eyelids during a single surgical session.
Upper blepharoplasty assists in decreasing the folds of skin that droop over the eye and produces a more awakened and appealing look. An incision is usually made along the lid crease to excise loose skin and fatty tissue.
Correction on the lower lid is performed to reduce puffy and bulging skin beneath the lower eyelid. The incision is carefully made along the lash line to allow access to remove tissue and fat, and the skin is subtly lifted to allow for a softer, flatter look. In some cases, a nonsurgical laser treatment can be incorporated to assist with discoloration, while fillers can be used for more smoothness and softening if desired.
What to Expect
Bleph of the upper or lower eyelid can last up to two hours depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. After this outpatient surgery, you should plan about a week to recover and rest at home. A cold compress can help reduce discomfort, swelling, and bruising. The results from bleph surgery can last years, but while they are lasting, the aging process does not stop. To maintain the surgical outcomes, other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments at Raleigh Plastic Surgery Center such as fillers, peels, and lasers can be paired to create a youthful-looking appearance.
