Often called Collagen Induction Therapy, this minimally invasive treatment activates your body’s natural healing process and is quickly becoming a favorite among medical professionals, estheticians, and skincare fanatics. It uses small needles to create controlled, tiny, micro injuries. These “injuries” create collagen and elastin production, which are essential to youthful, healthy skin. At Lyle Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics Center in Raleigh North Carolina, we also offer radiofrequency microneedling with the Cynosure Lutronic Genius RF device. .  This is a little bit more involved but delivers energy along with the microneedles which accelerates some of the skin tightening.  SkinStylus™ treatments have a little less down time and are a little bit more comfortable although not quite as powerful

SkinStylus is suitable for all ages and most skin types. It is FDA cleared for the correction of acne scarring, fine lines, volume loss, and scars. All patients will have a consultation with one of our medical providers prior to treatment to determine if you are a candidate for SkinStylus as there are certain contraindications such as active acne and other skin conditions.

There is minimal discomfort with SkinStylus and the topical numbing will prevent any unnecessary pain. There are additional oral pain relief options available, but these are rarely needed for SkinStylus Microneedling due to the shallow nature of the treatment. Redness, dryness, and soreness are all common several days post procedure. However, the majority of patients are back at work the next day!

1.  How is SkinStylus™ different than other microneedling devices?

SkinStylus™ uses advanced nano needling technology, which employs smaller needles at a shallower depth offering a gentler approach and is suitable for all skin types and promotes faster healing.  It is the only FDA cleared microneedling device approved for both the face and abdomen.  It is helpful for treating stretch marks of the abdomen.

2.  Is there any down time?

SkinStylus™ requires 24-48 hours of down time usually when your skin looks somewhat red and sun avoidance is mandatory.

3.  Will I need to be numb?

Because nanoneedling penetrates superficially less numbing time is required.  Our aesthetician will numb you for 30 minutes before treatment.  Many patients report a quick in comfortable procedure.

4.  How many treatments do I need to see results?

3-4 treatments spaced- three to six weeks apart is recommended for optimal results.

5.  Can other add-ons such as exosomes be applied during microneedling?

Yes, exosomes, PRP and even nucleotide therapy such as salmon DNA and RNA ( Rejuran®) can be applied to enhance the effect of the microneedling.

Once before photos are taken to establish your baseline, a thorough cleanse is performed followed by a topical anesthetic application for 30-45 minutes. Once confirmed that the treatment area is sufficiently numbed, the microneedling will begin. Your provider will determine the number of passes and the appropriate needle depth. Once the treatment is completed a peptide rich serum is applied to accelerate the healing process. Your provider will once again review aftercare instructions and schedule your four week follow up.
