One of the most effective procedures to rejuvenate the face is to perform an upper blepharoplasty.. Patients concerned about heavy tired appearing upper eyelids with the skin hanging onto their eyelashes can have significant improvement with a relatively straightforward procedure with fairly rapid recovery. The upper eyelid lift or blepharoplasty involves surgical removal of excess skin and usually some periorbital fat to dramatically beautify the upper face. Maneuvers performed during the procedure can also affect a mild degree of brow lifting. Internal browpexy involves stabilizing the brow in a slightly higher position. Although this is not the same as a formal brow lift, it can improve the results of a blepharoplasty and avoid the need for a formal brow lift. Recovery from an upper blepharoplasty is roughly about 1 week followed by an additional week of some swelling and minor bruising but most people can return to fairly normal activities in 2 weeks or so. The incisions are usually very minimally noticeable since they tend to fall into a natural skin crease. Although the entire upper eyelid is not treated, it certainly gets rid of the excess skin and makes additional noninvasive treatments more effective. Patients report that their friends usually don't know that they had the procedure but rather they appear more refreshed and less tired. This 65-year-old woman felt that her eyes betrayed how young she felt. The blepharoplasty helped to fix that!
