Upper blepharoplasty is a very valuable procedure for improving the appearance of the upper face. Heavy eyelid skin which can obstruct upper field vision is removed usually with some degree of excess fatty tissue removal. The resulting scar is minimally visible as it is positioned into a natural skin crease. The skin is also very thin and generally the skin heals better than thick skin. This 66-year-old woman had loss of her upper visual fields which created problems when she was driving at night looking at Road signs and also to some degree, her lateral peripheral vision. Upper blepharoplasty improved this problem and also resulted in a nice crisp appearance of her upper eyelids. The recovery is relatively short just over a week and the scars fade fairly quickly and can be covered with makeup after a few weeks. A Visual Field test must be performed usually by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Cost of upper blepharoplasty is around $5000 with anesthesia but sometimes can be done with local anesthesia and oral sedative. It is one of the most effective procedures for freshening up the appearance of the face.
