Women who have had breast lift or mastopexy often ask how long the result lasts. This is a difficult question as aging affects everyone differently and weight changes as well as differences in the patient's skin type, health and lifestyle varies so much. This 48-year-old woman had undergone a vertical breast lift by another surgeon just over 12 years ago. She has some weight changes and notices some dropping of her breast tissue and recurrent breast ptosis. She wished to have a very similar breast size, but additional lifting performed. She was also hopeful not to have nipple areola incisions. Her prior surgery was done as a vertical lift also sometimes called a lollipop lift as the incisions are restricted to just a vertical scar below the nipple. Unfortunately to elevate the nipple and redo her mastopexy, did require incision around her nipple areola complex. Dr. Lyle performed a revision, essentially re-doing a vertical breast lift with minimal removal of excess breast tissue mostly just redundant skin. The nipples were elevated to a more suitable position and improved shape was achieved. Mastopexy has a relatively high revision rate and many patients who have had prior mastopexy desire some improvements 10-15 years later. Hopefully this can be more of a tweak than a complete do over. The patient was quite pleased with the improvements and maintained sensation of the nipples and minimal change in breast volume. She had better upper pole appearance.
