This 61 year old woman had sub glandular silicone gel implants placed in 1985. She developed hardening and distortion approximately 5 years prior to seeing Dr Lyle but she had other health problems that precluded having surgery. She had pain in both breast and was self conscious about hugging her grandchildren due to her breasts feeling so hard. She had a ruptured left implant demonstrated on CT scan with extra capsular leakage and suspected intracapsular rupture on the right. At surgery, she had ruptured implants and severe capsular contracture. Her left implant material was infiltrating the tissue and some breast tissue and skin had to be removed . She had new gel implants placed- (Mentor 320 cc ) this time under the muscle to reduce contracture and because she was very thin. Post op she had relief of her pain and much more normal appearing breasts. She now could hug her grandchildren without concern!
