Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck is often the best procedure to flatten the abdomen. For properly selected patients, liposuction alone may be very effective but relies on skin retraction and tightening. Women with prior pregnancies or significant weight loss may have loose skin and stretch marks. These don't improve- in fact may worsen with liposuction. Diastasis rectus- a widening of the gap between your abdominal muscles (rectus abdominus) is NOT repaired during liposuction. That bulge that occurs when you do a sit-up will not get better. Exercise can help but infrequently correct diastasis. CoolSculpting has limited success and rarely results in a "flat tummy". Patients having prior CoolSculpting that ultimately decide to get liposuction of tummy tuck often have a much harder time getting good results because of the internal scarring that results from cryolipolysis. Often the Vaser device is necessary to get through the scarring. This is one of the little-known concerns with CoolSculpting. This 41-year-old patient had a BMI of just over 33 but was otherwise healthy. Dr Lyle performed abdominoplasty with diastasis repair as well as liposuction of the flanks and abdomen. She was very happy with her new physique. Her excess abdominal skin weight 5 lbs and her liposuction about 2 lbs. OF course the tradeoff is an abdominal scar. This is kept low on the abdomen when possible and usually hidden by shorts and many two-piece bathing suits. Want a flat abdomen? Tummy tuck may be the best option.
