A frequent request from patients seeking body contouring is if abdominoplasty can be combined with fat transfer to the buttock. The answer is yes- it can be combined safely in many cases provided the patient is in excellent health and has an appropriate body mass index and has realistic expectations. Abdominoplasty with liposuction is a more common procedure today than it was in the past. Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL Is also becoming more popular. It seems logical to combine the two procedures. There are limitations however. The ideal recovery from a BBL Involves avoidance of pressure on the newly grafted areas, while recovery from an abdominoplasty involves a period when resting on the buttock is necessary. There will be some compromise. Much of the benefit in a fat transfer to the buttock involves the liposuction performed on the flank and back area which will improve the shape of the buttock even with minimal fat transfer. Combining aggressive liposuction with abdominoplasty may increase risks of complications such as DVT and pulmonary embolism and may even compromise the wound healing of an abdominoplasty. All of these things need to be taken into consideration in deciding whether this is the best choice. Dr. Lyle restricts this combination to patients with body mass index of 30 or below. For some patients, staging the procedures may be prudent. This 45-year-old mother of 2 had abdominoplasty with conservative fat grafting to the buttock .
