This is a 45-year-old woman, mother of 4 children was very unhappy with the appearance of her abdomen. Although she was trying to diet and exercise she could not really make much progress and was hoping to have a flatter abdomen and more curves. She underwent a lipo- abdominoplasty-Which essentially is a full abdominoplasty with additional liposuction including her flanks , abdomen and back. In the past, liposuction was not a significant part of the abdominoplasty but over the years, with safer techniques and knowledge, plastic surgeons have added more aggressive liposuction to the procedure. Dr. Lyle utilizes the Vaser device in many cases as well as power assisted liposuction. Provided that the patients are healthy and of a reasonable weight with body mass index at or below 30; he will frequently start the procedure in the prone position performing liposuction of the flanks and back and then complete the procedure in the supine position. Fat transfer can be performed as well sometimes to the breasts and sometimes to the buttock. Transfer to the buttock during this procedure has a potential for less success because the recovery of an abdominoplasty requires laying on the buttock for the immediate postoperative period and contributing to pressure on the newly grafted fat. However, when appropriate, it can be added to the procedure with reasonable expectation of improvement. This patient did not have BBL but did have improvement in her buttock projection .
