Mommy Makeover

Mommy makeover is a general term to describe surgical procedures to improve the appearance of the breast and abdomen after pregnancies. Generally, a tummy tuck is a major component. The breast component can be anything from augmentation to breast reduction or in some cases mastopexy. This 37-year-old woman noted drooping of her breasts and pannus formation which was not improving with exercise and dietary changes. She underwent a vertical mastopexy with abdominoplasty and liposuction of the flanks and abdomen. The procedure was done in Dr. Lyle's surgical facility. He utilizes the services of a full time registered nurse in his perioperative care. The patient was quite pleased with the outcome with a recovery which took about 2 weeks before she was able to drive and resume normal day-to-day activities and about 6 weeks before returning to regular exercise. A vertical mastopexy is a limited scar technique and avoids the large scar under the breast fold. In her case, a short extension laterally was necessary to resect excess skin but it was not necessary to make a incision medially which often shows up and is visible in low-cut clothing.
