This patient is a 41-year-old woman who is generally fairly fit and of normal weight however she was unable to really improve the appearance of her abdomen and flanks despite exercising. She did have some generalized loss of abdominal tone which could be improved upon with exercise however the fatty tissue distribution did not seem to be going anywhere. She underwent 360° Vaser assisted liposuction which involves prone positioning and turning supine to complete the procedure. The Vaser device helps to emulsify fat to make it easier to remove and more efficient. It also helps to provide some skin tightening. Power assisted liposuction (PAL) is used to remove fat. In her case she had 3.4 L of lipolysis. Not all of the removal is fat but estimated at close to 70% fat. Ideal candidates have body mass index of 30 or less, good skin tone and otherwise healthy. Patients whose body mass index is over 30 are counseled to attempt weight loss. This procedure is not as effective if patients have loose skin, stretch marks or multiple abdominal scars. Results take several months to really become apparent and the Vaser induces some skin contraction or tightening which takes even longer -up to 6 months for final results to become apparent. Compression garments are necessary . Dr. Lyle recommends return to light exercise within 2 weeks with gradual return to the gym or more involved home exercises to maximize results within 4 weeks.
