Hips Dips- also called trochanteric depressions or "violin hips". It is the depressed area above the thighs and below the hip bone that many women find unattractive or bothersome. There has been an increased popularity in treatment directed at this area. Some med spas and cosmetic surgery practices offer filler agents such as a Sculptra or Renuva to fill in this area. It often requires a large number of vials and repeated treatments. With fairly small hip dips-this may be a good option however, it can get quite expensive as some patients need up to 20-30 vials to achieve correction which can cost upwards of $ 10,000 or more Fat transfer is a surgical option which involves removal of fat from desired areas such as the flanks and abdomen and other parts of the thigh with fat injection into the depressed area. This 29-year-old woman had always been bothered by her trochanteric depressions. She underwent Vaser assisted liposuction of the flanks and some outer thigh with injection of about 450 cc of fat into the hip and lateral buttock. Fat transfer is usually very successful in this area with relatively predictable results although all of the fat does not survive, and some degree of resorption occurs. Patients having fat transfer often desire another session.to achieve the desired outcome.
