There has been an increased interest in utilizing one's own fat to enhance the breast. This is a procedure called fat grafting or fat transfer to the breasts. It is not quite as popular as fat transfer to the buttock also known as Brazilian Butt Lift. The results of fat transfer the breast generally are much more modest then a breast implant and they do not achieve similar results. Breast implants have an immediate predictable impact on shape and size whereas fat transfer is somewhat less predictable. Fat transfer to the breast must be done a bit more cautiously than fat transfer to the buttock. The female breast is obviously at risk of developing breast cancer so more care in placement of fat and processing of fat is necessary to obtain a good safe result. Over grafting can lead to oil cysts, calcifications and fat necrosis and potentially interfere with mammography. Managing expectations with fat transfer to the breasts is important as the results achieved are not the same as breast augmentation with implants. Although some resorbed, she had a good improvement in volume and was quite happy with the outcome
