Brachioplasty or Arm Lift is a procedure designed to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the arms. The severity of the problem is variable. Very large armed patients may require liposuction with the arm lift or liposuction alone depending on the elasticity of the arm skin. Patients with weight loss frequently will have complaints of loose flabby arm skin. Some patients also complain of this with aging and natural laxity of the skin. This patient had significant weight loss and noted aging also created loose flabby arms skin. She did not have a very severe deformity but desired improvements. She underwent brachioplasty with removal of loose skin. She was very happy with the improvements made and now could were clothing and not be as embarrassed. Her scar healed very nicely with time. Generally looser skin and individuals have better scars as there is less tension on the closure. Over resection can lead to spindly-appearing arms. Under resection results and persistent deformity. Recovery is very quick and there is minimal down time. Patient's frequently just were compression sleeves or even Ace wraps on her arms but there is very little discomfort from the procedure. Resumption of activities usually is fairly rapid avoiding upper extremity exercises for several weeks.
