Body contouring after weight loss can occur in patients well into their 60s and 70s provided they have good health. This 70-year-old woman had lost 80 pounds by making changes later in life such as better exercise and becoming a vegetarian. She had a very stressful job and after retirement decided to improve her health. This resulted in significant laxity of her arms, breasts and abdomen and bra roll. She was hopeful to have improvements in these areas. She had consultations with several physicians and chose Dr. Lyle. Dr. Lyle performs his procedures in his accredited ambulatory surgical center. She underwent staged body contouring with initial performance of abdominoplasty with brachioplasty followed later by a breast lift with a bra roll lift. Staging is generally recommended when several procedures are needed or desired.. The patient had these procedures done about 4 months apart and did well. The time interval between surgeries varies depending on recovery -usually 3-6 months apart. She is very pleased with the improvements and is now able to fit into her clothing and not so concerned about scarring. The bra roll lift is designed to remove redundant skin in the lateral breast and back area. It can be safely combined with a mastopexy and typically the incision is located where the bra covers it. It is particularly helpful for a loose skinned individuals as liposuction would only make things looser.
