Weight loss surgery can result in massive amounts of weight loss. This 36-year-old woman had bariatric surgery several years ago. At one time she was well over 400 pounds. She lost over 200 pounds. She presented to Dr. Lyle with desires to improve her abdominal pannus and loose skin around the hips. At that time she weighed just over 200 pounds. She lost an additional 15 pounds prior to her surgery. She underwent a circumferential abdominoplasty or body lift. She had a small amount of liposuction performed. Patients with this amount of weight loss frequently do not have a lot of fatty excess mostly skin and loose fat mostly amenable to excisional approaches rather than liposuction Her results were dramatic with significant improvement of the pannus, hip area and buttock. Dr. Lyle will do these procedures in his office based Fully accredited outpatient ambulatory surgery Center provided that the body mass index is 30 or less. On some occasions, he will do patients with a higher BMI at Rex Hospital but generally restricts his surgery to patients with body mass index 35 or less. The patient was very pleased with her results and in fact is planning on having some breast lifting done. Many patients with this amount of weight loss will require several separate procedures to address areas of concern such as the thighs, arms and breasts.
