BMI and Tummy Tuck After Bariatric Surgery, Raleigh,NC

Patients presenting after bariatric surgery typically have weight loss of well over 100 pounds and resulting large amounts of excess loose skin. Not all patients have as much success with the bariatric procedure but still have excess loose skin that would benefit from removal. Weight gain after initial large amount of weight loss can be an indication for revisional bariatric surgery or just tightening up dietary changes. Even at higher BMI, patients can have significant body contour improvements with abdominoplasty however expectations have to be tempered. This patient is a 42-year-old woman who initially had a lot of weight loss after a gastric sleeve but ultimately regained some weight and wanted improvements in her abdomen. She had other desires as well but was counseled to proceed with extended abdominoplasty with limited liposuction to reduce risk. She was hopeful to jumpstart additional weight loss. She underwent extended abdominoplasty With removal of 10 pounds of excess skin and fat from her lower abdomen. Although she would be a candidate for circumferential abdominoplasty she chose the more limited procedure which gave her a very nice improvement. She feels more confident that she can lose more weight and ultimately will probably undergo additional body contouring procedures. Dr. Lyle occasionally performs body contouring procedures on patients with BMI of 40 or less but generally prefers them to be 35 or less. He uses Rex Hospital in these cases
