Post-pregnancy Breasts Restored with Breast Implants, Raleigh, North Carolina
It is very common to lose volume in the breasts after pregnancy. The process is known as involutional hypoplasia and occurs as breast tissue regresses. This is a very common motivating factor for women desiring breast augmentation. This patient is a 34-year-old mother of 2 children who noted decreased volume in her breasts after her pregnancies. She was a 36 B cup and wanted to go up one cup size. Preoperative counseling about options including saline breast implants and silicone gel breast implants was carried out and the patient chose silicone gel implants. She underwent bilateral submuscular placement of smooth-walled silicone gel breast implants with a volume of 375 cc. These were placed through small incisions in the inframammary fold or breast crease. Dr. Lyle utilizes the KELLER funnel which is an insertion sleeve which allows for less trauma to the implant, less exposure to potential skin bacteria which may be present despite thorough sterile surgical technique and skin preparation and also allows for a somewhat smaller incision. The patient was very pleased with her improved volume and lifting of the breast profile. She now wears a C cup.
