Coming up with a game plan for patients with extensive changes after massive weight loss is necessary since most of these deformities cannot be treated in one setting. Dr. Lyle takes an individualized approach and determines what priorities patients have as far as which surgeries to do and when to do them.
This 57-year-old woman had lost over 120 pounds after a duodenal switch. Although she had multiple concerns, her top priorities were her breasts and arms, so she underwent extended mastopexy and brachioplasty. Three months later, she underwent circumferential abdominoplasty, and then six months after that, she had a thigh lift.
Because of some underlying health issues, she had them performed at Rex Hospital but as an outpatient.
Each patient’s circumstances are different, and which procedures to combine and when to do them has to be individualized. Brachioplasty and mastopexy is a common combination and can be safely done together. The brachioplasty typically does not add much to the recovery, and having full use of your arms when you undergo a tummy tuck or body lift might be a good reason to have them done first prior to undertaking the more intensive abdominal surgery.
Dr. Lyle offers various body contouring procedures for patients who have experienced significant weight loss. These procedures remove excess skin and improve body shape for a more toned and defined appearance.
