Ruptured implants removed with complete capsulectomy in Raleigh, NC
This 61 year old woman had silicone gel implants placed in the 1980s. She developed hardening or capsular contracture formation in the 1990s but never had treatment. She came in for consultation having suffered with firm distorted breasts after mammograms showed clearcut rupture on the left side. Clinically, she had Baker IV capsular contracture where the breast is hard, painful and distorted. She underwent total capsulectomies. The right side had a ruptured silicone implant- enclosed within the capsule. The left side had extracapsular migration along the left lower inner aspect. After complete removal, she had 350 cc silicone implants replaced with marked improvement in pain and shape of her breasts.
