Concern

This 77-year-old woman had a new lease on life as she has lost a considerable amount of weight and was enjoying her retired lifestyle looking at the beach. She was very self-conscious about the loose skin on her arms breasts and thighs. She had a breast lift and brachioplasty as well as a revision of abdominoplasty done by another doctor. She was very pleased, and her final step was to improve the appearance of her thighs which were very loose.
Surgery
The patient underwent a vertical thigh lift which involves removal of excess skin and subcutaneous fat on the inside of the thigh from the groin to the knee. It does result in a scar but with time this will fade although never go away. The patient recovered well, had to use compression garments for several months to maximize the result and also scar treatments to improve the scar.
Result
The patient is very happy with the result with less loose skin of her thigh and now she was able to wear bathing suits at the beach much more confidently. Age is not always a barrier to cosmetic surgery but must be done safely with appropriate preoperative evaluation.
