Brown spots of the face, chest and hands are also called dyschromia and represent abnormal patches of pigmentation that develop with aging and chronic sun exposure. They generally are more noticeable light-skinned individuals. There are a number of different treatments for them including facial peels, topical creams and lasers as well as light-based therapies. This 61-year-old woman did not like her complexion and felt that the brown spot she developed were different than typical freckles and gave her a patch like appearance. She was looking for noninvasive ways to treat them.
Treatment
The patient underwent 2 sessions of Sciton Broad Band Light treatment also known as BBL. This device uses different wavelengths of the light that can reduce the appearance of pigmented spots as well as red spots. Typically, the treatments have to be repeated at least 3 times -1 month apart -to get the maximum result and ongoing maintenance treatments are necessary. It is often combined with a laser- Cynosure Genius Ultra- a 1927 mn wavelength device to smooth the skin. The treatments can be performed without anesthesia but topical numbing medicine is utilized. These are performed in Dr. Lyle’s office by his aesthetic nurse or physician assistant.
Result
The patient had a lightening of these brown spots with smoother complexion and a more youthful appearance.
