Direct Neck Lift improves Turkey Gobbler in Raleigh, North Carolina
Concern
This 70-year-old woman had a number of health issues that made anesthesia riskier. She wanted improvements in her neck and eyes. She was turned down by several plastic surgeons. Realistically she was not a great candidate for a facelift. She did see Dr. Lyle for alternatives, and he offered her a direct neck lift which does involve an incision in the middle of the neck to address the loose skin and excess fat of her neck. This is often called a turkey gobbler. The procedure can be done with local anesthesia and involves direct exposure of the structures and generally safer procedure. The downside is the incision that can be visible in the front of the neck. This is a much less common procedure than a necklift or facelift. The patient chose this option.
Surgery
The patient underwent a direct neck lift under local anesthesia only and Dr. Lyle’s office procedure room. Although the results are not quite as dramatic as a facelift, it was a quicker recovery, less anesthesia and in her case, safer.
A few months later she underwent upper blepharoplasty also under local anesthesia with improvements of her hooded eyelids
Result
The patient was very pleased with her results. The procedure was less expensive, less down time and in her case much safer than undergoing general anesthesia. Her scar actually faded pretty nicely and she preferred the scar over the excess skin of her neck which she always hid anyway.
