Direct Neck Lift- Done Under Local Anesthesia Images Raleigh
Concern
This 72-year-old gentleman desired improvement of his neck which she described as a turkey gobbler. He had a number of health problems that would prevent him from having the procedure under a general anesthetic and was looking for improvements but did not want a formal facelift or neck lift. He chose to have a direct neck lift which involves an incision just under the chin and about halfway down the neck that directly excise excess skin and even can address muscle laxity.
Surgery
A direct neck lift can be done under local anesthesia alone. Because the removal of skin fat and even correction of muscle anatomy is done in a more direct fashion it is simpler and quite effective although it does leave an incision down the middle of the neck that can lead to noticeable scarring. A standard neck lift or facelift removed excess skin behind the ears and in front of the ears in some cases. However, it is technically more difficult and usually involves minimum heavy sedation or general anesthesia. The direct neck lift is usually done with local anesthesia alone and has a quicker recovery. A Z-plasty is necessary to break up the scar which leaves a small zig zag-like incision in the flexion crease. This is almost always stone men rather than women because they can hide there is scarring more effectively. In some cases, women can have this procedure as well depending on circumstances
Result
The patient was very very happy with his results. He now was able to wear a mock turtle no longer bothered by the loose skin hanging over the edges. He recovered quickly and is using scar cream to lessen the appearance of his scars which do not bother him.
