About Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is one of the most satisfying procedures for women with large breasts. It achieves improvement in shape, lifting of the nipple, and, of course, smaller breasts. It is very difficult, even for an experienced surgeon, to predict the final cup size. Anatomical differences between patients sometimes dictate the amount of safe resection. The vast majority of women are very happy with their reduced size, and although they may not have the exact cup size they expected, they do enjoy the benefits of the improved shape, smaller volume, and lifted nipples.

Concern

This patient underwent a breast reduction 3 years ago by an experienced plastic surgeon. She was disappointed with her results as she felt she was too small. She went from a double D to a B cup and was hopeful to be a C cup. She had done some research and determined that she wanted saline breast implants. She had decided upon the Ideal implant, which is a saline implant but with internal baffles that create an internal structure to allow for an implant that has less chance of collapsing and less palpability. They frequently cannot be distinguished from a gel implant,but provide the safety profile afforded by a saline device. The Ideal implant recently withdrew from the market but are available through Bimini Health as Serene implants.

Surgery

The patient found Dr. Lyle as he was one of the few surgeons performing Ideal implants. She underwent submuscular placement of bilateral Ideal implants with the final implant volume of 340 cc. Although Dr. Lyle no longer offers Ideal implants, they were a reasonable choice, the company no longer exists, and no warranty support is available.

Result

She was quite pleased with the improvement and was happy with her C-cup breasts.
