Under 22 years old women can receive Saline Implants
This 20-year-old woman had very small A cup breasts and desired augmentation to a C cup. Implant choices in the US are restricted in women under 22 years of age to saline devices. You must be 22 or over to get silicone gel implants. Why? When the FDA released silicone implants for general use in 2006- they stipulated that patients under 22 receive only saline implants. This was because the original studies examining the safety of the silicone devices only had patients 22 years old or older. It was not because silicone implants were felt to be unsafe in patients under 22. Curious that you can vote at 18, serve in the military at 18, drink alcohol at 21 but have to be 22 to get silicone breast implants. It is important to realize that you can have silicone gel breast implants between the age of 18 and 22 it is just considered off label, but the manufacturer’s will still on are the warranty. Nonetheless the patient was very happy with her new breasts. These were Mentor smooth wall Moderate Plus implants 275 cc inflated to their full capacity of 330 cc.
