BBL also known as Fat Transfer to Buttock, Raleigh ,NC
This 33 year old woman sought improvement in her buttock appearance. She wanted fat removed from her abdomen and flanks and a better shape of her buttock. She was not an ideal candidate. For one thing she had a large overlying pannus or loose skin of her abdomen. She was advised that this appearance would not be made better with liposuction . In fact, with loose skin, liposuction can make things worse on the abdomen.. However she was not too concerned about this. She also had diabetes. Although well controlled, this condition can lead to increased infection rates and potential for less fat graft success due to vascular issues. Nevertheless she chose to undergo this procedure as she was deemed a moderate risk. This procedure was performed in the hospital as an outpatient owing to her diabetes. She had 3 liters of liposuction performed on her abdomen, flanks and back. After processing, usable fat was 1500cc so she had 750 cc of fat placed in each buttock- in the subcutaneous plane only to improve buttock projection. Post operatively she had a nice improvement. Limitations of the size achieved is based on her underlying health( diabetes) and a conservative enhancement to avoid complications. Over grafting can lead to oil cysts and fat necrosis and infection. While placement of fat in the muscle ( a better blood supply) is strictly avoided as it can lead to fat embolism and even death. BBL or fat grafting to the buttock can be effective but must be done safely.
