Apron Belly Fixed with Abdominoplasty in Raleigh, NC
What is an apron belly? Apron belly describes a large abdominal pannus which hangs over the belt line appearing almost like a chef’s apron. While all tummy tucks do include panniculectomy or removal of the skin and fat below the bellybutton, not all patients have the apron-like appearance. Abdominoplasty will result in a dramatic improvement when this condition is present. Patients with apron belly have trouble finding appropriate clothing to hide their tummy and often complain that people think they look pregnant.
And abdominoplasty generally involves panniculectomy, repair of a diastases rectus and often is combined with liposuction.
This 50-year-old woman originally had gigantomastia with extremely large breasts. She was overweight with a body mass index of 36 and Dr. Lyle performed a larger breast reduction in a hospital setting. She went on GLP-1 and lost an additional 50 pounds and then had some health improvements that allowed Dr. Lyle to perform abdominoplasty with liposuction of the abdomen and flanks in an outpatient setting. Her BMI came down to about 31. Abdominoplasty with liposuction can be transformational especially when patients have a severe overhang of skin and fat that no amount of weight loss will correct. The combination of prior breast reduction—with removal of over 4.5 pounds of excess breast and removal of nearly 9 pounds of excess skin and fat from the tummy—was life changing.
Dr. Lyle offers various body contouring procedures for patients who have experienced significant weight loss. These procedures remove excess skin and improve body shape for a more toned and defined appearance.
