Men generally present for abdominoplasty after significant weight loss. While women who have been pregnant suffer loose skin and stretched muscles or diastasis rectus. Males usually are bothered by their abdomen after significant weight loss and usually do not have significant diastasis rectus.
Concern
This 45-year-old gentleman had gained a lot of weight after an accident which prevented him from exercising for several years. After recovery, he lost 100 pounds through diet and exercise. He was a diabetic although well controlled.
Surgery
He underwent an extended abdominoplasty with some liposuction to his flanks. Because of his diabetes, this was done in a hospital setting as an outpatient.
Results
He did very well without any complications. He still has a little bit of residual fullness and laxity in his flanks and will have some additional liposuction of the flanks as an outpatient in the office.
