This 39-year-old woman had had 2 children it was hopeful to have improvements in her abdomen. She initially was hopeful to have a mini abdominoplasty with diastases repair but her aesthetic goals would not be achieved with that limited procedure so Dr. Lyle recommended a full abdominoplasty with diastases repair as well as some liposuction of the flanks and abdomen. She actually was found to have a small umbilical hernia during the procedure which was repaired. Generally, umbilical hernias do not need mesh when a diastases repair is performed. Dr. Lyle was fully trained in general surgery prior to his plastic surgery training and is very comfortable with repair of incidental hernias during abdominoplasty. Dr. Lyle utilizes Exparel which is a long lasting numbing medicine which really helps especially with the diastases repair recovery which usually is the part of the operation that causes most discomfort. The patient was a very fit individual and found, after about 6 weeks, she could return to some of her weightlifting and gym activities and was back to complete normal routine after 3 months. She was thrilled with her results and recommended Dr. Lyle to several of her friends.
