Breast Augmentation After Breast Reduction in Weight Loss Patient
Concern: This 29-year-old woman had undergone bariatric surgery in the past and lost 100 pounds. Another surgeon performed a breast reduction/lift. The patient ended up losing more weight and developed significant sagging and loss of volume in the upper portion of her breasts. This is not uncommon after breasts lifts and breast reductions in ongoing weight loss. The patient was hopeful to have full her breasts to fill out the loose skin of her chest.
Surgery: the patient had placement of bilateral submuscular 405 cc Allergan SSM breast implants. Doing a delayed implant placement after mastopexy or reduction is a much more difficult procedure and sometimes requires an internal bra or mesh placement to support the loose tissues. Revisional surgery after augmentation for these types of procedures is not uncommon. Revision of the breast reduction or breast lift is frequently necessary at the time of the implant placement as this patient did require revision of her original mastopexy to achieve a good result
