Circumferential Abdominoplasty in Male Patient Raleigh
Concern
Bariatric surgery can result in massive weight loss. The procedure often will lead to over 100 -pound weight loss in a year to 18 months. Major health benefits can be realized in a new outlook on life achieved. Unfortunately, massive weight loss results in body contouring deformities that may need to be addressed with cosmetic surgery.
This 51-year-old gentleman lost 140 pounds after a gastric sleeve procedure. He had been a fit college athlete but with aging gained a considerable amount of weight and had health problems that prevented him from exercise. After the weight loss he was left with loose skin of his abdomen which extended all the way to his back. He had previous lumbar surgery and the scar was tethered creating an unsightly V-shaped deformity in his back that he was self-conscious about. He was very active and like to go to the beach but never like to wear a bathing suit.
Surgery
The patient underwent a circumferential abdominoplasty with removal of skin in a 360° fashion. The scar in his back was released and the redundant skin removed essentially getting rid of this scar and creating a new one but lower and able to be hidden by a bathing suit.
Result
The patient was quite pleased with the improvements made and now could comfortably wear tighter fitting clothing and was more comfortable wearing bathing suits.
