BREAST LIFT VS. BREAST REDUCTION
5/14/2014
Patients often come to my practice with a particular procedure in mind only to discover that, after an evaluation, they are better suited for a different procedure. Breast lift surgery and breast reduction surgery are very similar, but their slight differences are important for treating different patient conditions. During the initial consultation, I evaluate the specific needs and goals of each patient and the condition of the patient’s breasts to determine the ideal procedure for her.
BREAST LIFT
Also known as mastopexy, breast lift surgery removes excess skin from the breasts to improve their position and shape. This procedure is often combined with breast augmentation with an implant in order to increase the volume of the breasts as well as lift them to a more youthful position. A breast lift sometimes involves a small reduction in volume, but not nearly the amount of tissue is removed compared to a breast reduction.
BREAST REDUCTION
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, reduces breast tissue and skin to eliminate physical and emotional problems associated with overly large breasts.
