Patients frequently complain of excess fat under the chin. This can lead to the appearance of a double chin or " bull neck".

In some circumstances, noninvasive treatments such as Kybella or Softwave or radiofrequency treatments may be effective. Excess fat however needs to be removed In most circumstances.. As long as the skin tone is reasonable and there is not too much loose skin, liposuction can be effective. Avoidance of over resection is important to prevent creating loose skin. The Vaser device helps to emulsify fat and provide some degree of skin shrinkage.

This 39-year-old gentleman did not like the appearance of his double chin. He had liposuction to address other parts of his body and during the same procedure had some Vaser assisted liposuction to his neck. He was pleased with the improvements. It generally takes a month or 2 to start seeing the results as some degree of swelling occurs and it is helpful to utilize a compression chin strap in the first few weeks after surgery. Only very small Incisions are necessary And are generally not noticeable. This procedure can be done with local anesthesia when done in isolation or combined with larger procedures. Careful patient selection and technique is critical. Patients with loose skin having additional fat removed can result in even looser appearing skin.. Additional modalities like My Ellevate are often recommended if the muscle laxity and salivary glands appear to be prominent.
