Bariatric surgery has become more and more popular in the last decade with remarkable, safe weight loss achieved through advanced procedures. Major improvements in health such as reduction in diabetes, hypertension and other risk factors associated with obesity can be attained. The consequences of weight loss surgery however result in significant deformities with excess skin and fatty tissue remaining. Areas of concern for both men and women include breast sagging, abdominal and back excess skin and fat as well as deformities and loose skin of the upper thighs. All of these areas usually are addressed in stages to allow for safe recovery This 57-year-old gentleman lost 140 pounds after gastric sleeve procedure. He presented to Dr. Lyle for body contouring. He had staged procedures with initial performance of brachioplasty and male breast reduction performed followed 6 months later with a lower body lift or circumferential abdominoplasty. Because of previous history of pulmonary embolism, his procedure was performed in a hospital setting with the use of perioperative anticoagulants to prevent recurrent blood clots. He did remarkably well- healing normally from his breast and arm procedure and had an uneventful recovery after circumferential abdominoplasty. He is back to working out regularly and now sees major improvements in all of the areas of concern. He is now even more motivated to maintain weight and build muscle with his "new " body.
