About Skin Tightening

At birth, your body has a full supply of the nutrients collagen and elastin that keeps your skin smooth, soft, healthy, and resilient. However, this supply of nutrients can run low and the skin of the face and body decreases in elasticity, leading to lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. If you want to improve the firmness and overall appearance of your skin without plastic surgery, consider nonsurgical skin tightening at Raleigh Plastic Surgery Center. With advanced technology, this procedure encourages the production of collagen and elastin in the treated areas so you can have firmer, healthier skin. Plastic surgeon Dr. Glenn Lyle is pleased to offer nonsurgical skin tightening to patients wishing to tone the skin on their face and body without the recovery time and expense of a surgical lift procedure. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Lyle in Raleigh, NC to find out more about nonsurgical skin tightening.

Ideal Candidates

Surgery for skin tightening, or “lift” procedures like a face or body lift, remain the most effective option for improving sagging, loose skin, although nonsurgical skin tightening can help if you do not wish to undergo cosmetic surgery. Nonsurgical skin tightening procedures can be done on most areas of the face and body, including the neck, stomach, arms, and thighs. The best patients for nonsurgical skin tightening:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Are at or near a healthy, stable weight
  • Have mild to moderate skin looseness on the face or body
  • Have lines or wrinkles on the face or body
  • Want to enhance the health and appearance of their skin

Procedure Technique

To begin the session, the skin being treated will be sanitized to remove any oils, cosmetics, and lotions. Local anesthesia options can be considered if you would prefer, but most patients find that discomfort (if any) during the laser procedure is temporary and manageable. As soon as you are ready, a ThermiRF® handpiece will be passed evenly over the targeted areas two or more times for the most effective treatment. The energy emitted by the handpiece encourages the body’s natural healing properties to being the production of collagen and elastin, which will tighten and firm the skin. The procedure can take about 30 – 90 minutes depending on the size and if multiple areas are being treated. After the session is complete, you will be able to leave and resume your daily activities.

What to Expect

After your nonsurgical skin tightening appointment, the treated areas may be mildly inflamed, numb, or red. This is expected and should clear up on its own within several days. During your consult, Dr. Lyle will talk about the best ways to care for your skin after your session, like keeping it moisturized and protected from sun and environmental damage. Most patients will not have visible results immediately after the session. Since collagen and elastin stimulation and production is a gradual process, you can see the full results of your treatment around 2 – 6 months after the procedure. However, these results should be long lasting and improve the overall health and appearance of your skin. You may require multiple treatments to get your ideal outcome. During your consultation, Dr. Lyle will help you determine your personalized treatment plan based on your concerns and goals.
